AND trafficked girls are left terrified when they don't earn enough to satisfy their foreign paymasters. WE checked just one website page advertising sex for sale in flats in Scots cities and found almost half the women came from eastern Europe. Nineteen out of 47 women in Glasgow and 15 out of 33 in Edinburgh were from eastern Europe. But so far, Scotland has only seen one conviction for human trafficking. Many of them head to the UK from poorer nations such as Poland, Romania and Bulgaria because they can charge more for sex than at home.
The women are advertised on adult websites and fake photographs of glamour models are often put online in a bid to attract business. Many attempt to hide their nationality by claiming to be from other European countries like Spain and Italy in a bid to avoid suspicion.
They also only stay in one place for a short time and move from city to city, either staying in rented flats or budget hotel rooms where they charge less for sex than Scottish vice girls. Others are placed in established brothels or saunas. Last week, the Sunday Mail phoned Edinburgh saunas and asked for a breakdown of the nationalities of women working there. By Derek Alexander.
